A Revisioned Ranch

Rethinking this ranchhouse from 1950 meant incorporating more daylight to the interior, opening up walls for more overlapping shared space, and replacing dark stained wood with lighter, vibrant colors. Our economical approach meant painted MDF cabinets, sheetmetal countertops, cork floors, and off the shelf porcelain tiles. Exterior treatment was limited to replacing only a portion of the original brushed cedar shingles with an application of horizontal wood siding at the entry porch, where a future roof will be built. Windows were made larger and set into 3" deep shadow boxes located to enhance the interior space and allowing greater connection to the garden and patio.
